Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: You are a page about Worthing, why are you posting other stuff?
A: The Worthing Page has always taken an outward looking approach to major news stories and current affairs and we often report issues which, despite being national or international, still have an impact on Worthing people or are of interest to a wide audience.

Q: Why did you post that status, it was clearly just stirring things up?!
A: Some say "stirring up" we say promoting debate. Social media is all about conversation, exchanging views and giving your opinion. Sometimes, we will post controversial posts to allow a frank and honest debate which fits in with one of our core aims of connection people over causes that matter.

Q: You only post controversial stuff to increase your stats!
A: No, we really don't. The nature of social media is that controversial content is more engaging. A status asking your opinion is always going to get more attention than a weather report. We post these statuses to open a conversation, if they are well received by the community that is great, if we get more likes, that too is great. But this is not the reason we post. It never has and it never will be.

Q: The Worthing Page is just a political mouthpiece!
A: Ummm, not really. So much of our day to day life is governed by political decisions, so we will often ask opinions on matters which may be considered political. TWP is and always will be politically neutral and we have a group of admins with mixed political backgrounds. Spotted something with political bias? Contact us

Q: Facebook is free to use, so advertising on The Worthing Page should be free too!
A: The reason for this is like any form of advertising, there is a cost associated with us taking requests from businesses and posting up their ads. When we had just 2,000 fans we were getting over 20 emails a day asking for free shout outs, which was too much to manage. Paid advertising means we can deliver high impact, affordable advertising for local businesses from just £15 per week.

Q: Your Admins should not share personal opinions!
A: We ran a poll on this a while back and the majority of people said that they did not object to Admins sharing personal views as long as they were clear that this was a personal view i.e. the post had the Admins name in it. We don't do this much, but will always be clear when a post is an opinion.

Q: All your fans are fake, you bought them on eBay!
A: This was a rumour started by a competitor in 2012 and is 100% false. Each and every one of our 20,000+ fans are real, tangible, lovely people, over 90% of whom are right here in Worthing. We have never, and will never buy "Likes" that's just silly!

Q: Why did you ban me?
A: Sadly, now and again we have to ban people. In the majority of cases we will give one warning before doing this stating the reason we object to you post. In some circumstances we ban immediately, this is usually due to exceptionally foul language or personal attacks on our Admin Team. Bans are permanent unless otherwise stated. Do you feel you have been banned unfairly? Contact us

Q: Does The Worthing Page have a manager?
A: No. 15 local individuals (named below) all contribute to our Facebook/Twitter feeds sharing their perspective on local (and national) issues. There is no management structure, rather a dedicated group of people working together to keep Worthing informed.

Q: Who owns The Worthing Page?
A: Facebook do. Facebook pages are not physical entities and currently Facebook's terms and conditions do not allow for any group or individual to assert ownership of any part of their network.

Q: There's content I don't like on your page or content which is infringing my copyright. Is this your responsibility?
A: No. The Worthing Page does not accept responsibility for any objectionable content on the page or any postings, images, video or views expressed by other facebook users. We will always try and be helpful and take down content that should not be there but ultimate responsibility rests with the user who posted..Seen something you don't like?
